All teeth have a living nerve. This nerve can be damaged by a leaking filling, tooth decay or when the tooth has been hit hard. Nerve pain often manifests itself as toothache. At that moment the nerve is so inflamed that the pain can only be remedied by a root canal treatment. During this treatment, the nerve is removed from the tooth and the empty space created is cleaned and filled with a special root canal cement. This way the inflammation is removed and the inflammation is prevented from spreading further.

How long does root canal treatment take?
Dit is sterk afhankelijk van de moeilijkheidsgraad van de behandeling. Tanden en kiezen verschillen van elkaar in het aantal zenuwkanalen maar ook in bijvoorbeeld de vorm, nauwheid of kromming. De gemiddelde behandeltijd ligt tussen 30 minuten en 2,5 uur. Vaak wordt de behandeling opgedeeld in 2 zittingen. Tijdens de eerste zitting wordt de zenuw deels verwijderd zodat u van de zenuwpijn af bent, waarop een volgende zitting volgt waarin de zenuw volledig wordt verwijderd en de lege ruimte wordt opgevuld.

When a root tip is inflamed, the inflammation looks for the way with the least resistance to exit the body, often via the gums. The pimple disappears after the inflammation is cleared away by a root canal treatment.
I have had a root canal treatment and I am still suffering. What can I do?
